7 Steps to Create a Virtual Music Ensemble

Many musicians are learning, teaching, and playing remotely this year. We are all doing our best to adapt and come up with creative ways to keep the music industry sustainable during this challenging time. Teacher and students have to adapt in the way they teach and learn, and everyone involved has to get creative in how the music happens. Performing musicians continue to find ways to share music online and come up with fun remote musical projects instead of live recitals and concerts. There are now so many videos of different forms of virtually recorded performances all over YouTube, Facebook, and other platforms.

Are you planning to create a virtual recording project but have never compiled video tracks before? Do you want to learn but not sure how to start? Maybe you already have some ideas but having guidance would help make the process easier.

Normally, there is a steep learning curve to learning the basics of recording and how to use complicated platforms for video editing. Alternatively, it's possible to just hire an expert to do this kind of work for you. However, the costs really add up, especially if you plan to do this more regularly throughout the year. I'd like to offer you a better option.

Virtual Music Ensemble is a comprehensive guide on how to create a multi-track video project so that you can learn how to create and edit your own virtual ensemble recording in less time and without the usual steep learning curve. You'll learn how to use audio and video-editing platforms that are:

    Beginner-friendly (easy to use, intuitive)

    Free or VERY low cost

    Capable of producing professional-quality content

Have been rated as some of the highest quality and most accessible platforms

Available across many different devices (Windows PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android)

    What's included?

    • Walkthroughs and follow-alongs of the preparation, recording, and editing process.
    • Step-by-step details on how to sync up video tracks.
    • A visual guide on how to navigate several free or very low-cost platforms, including Audacity and PowerDirector.
    • "Watch me work" demonstrations with two musical examples
    • Explanation of two methods out of many possible that have been useful to me in my projects
    • Any updates added to the mini-course after purchase will be at no extra charge
    • Comment section is open in all modules for questions, comments, sharing your experience, etc.
    • OPTIONAL ADD-ON: 30-minute 1:1 Zoom session with me. (Link to sign up available in Modules 2-4)
    • Lifetime access.
    • COMING SOON: Closed Captioning in English & Spanish. Other languages may become available if there is demand.

    Who is this for?

This mini-course might be for you if:

You're a performing musician (professional, amateur, and/or student), music teacher, artistic director, coach, and/or conductor of an ensemble and:

    • You've never done this before
    • You want to learn more about the music technology field and need somewhere fun and basic to start without figuring things out completely on your own
    • You're excited to learn about the most efficient methods to create a virtual music video project
    • You wish to add a new skillset to your arsenal that can continue to grow and serve you for years to come
    • You compose or arrange music but need a guide for recording and putting tracks together (so you can have an idea what it sounds like with real instruments without scheduling an in-person reading session)
    • You wish to artistically lead virtual ensemble projects with your orchestra, smaller ensembles, or just by yourself
    • You want to finally be able to actively collaborate with people musically from around the world
    • You don't want to spend hundreds (or even thousands) on a full college course
    • You don't want to spend on outsourcing in order to complete all of your virtual ensemble projects
    • You are reading this in 2020-2021 and are looking for creative opportunities and outlets.

This may also be a good fit for you if:

    • You're a visual learner
    • Following a real demonstration helps you learn

Even after the pandemic goes away, the music industry as we know it will continue to evolve and many of the new skills that are being picked up by musicians around the world will continue to be relevant, even after we go back to having live performances and in-person music education.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is it too late to sign up?

No! There are no date restrictions and the course is 100% self-paced.

I finished going through all the modules of the course but need extra help with my current project or understanding something. Can you help?

Yes! You have the option to add on a one-on-one 30-minute Zoom session with me should you need personalized help. However, if you just have a question that can be addressed in a short time, you can simply put it in the comments section of whatever lecture it pertains to. You can find the sign-up link for the 1:1 session option by scrolling down in any lecture of Modules 2, 3, or 4.

What does the bundle option mean from the pricing options?

If you are running an organization (like a music school, for example) and wish to provide this as training/learning material for your employees (or students, members, etc), you can purchase a bundle depending on how many users plan to register and have their own account. Upon choosing the bundle option, you will be emailed a unique coupon code for your users to apply so they can register individually. The coupon code is then applied by each user at checkout of the Individual Plan to bring the price down to 0 (since it was already pre-paid in the bundle). Ultimately, the bundles save $5 per person in the group.

Is there closed captioning available because English is not my first language or I have trouble understanding what you said in some parts?

I am currently working on creating closed captioning in English, which can then be translated to other languages.

What if I enroll and hate it or find that it's not for me?

If you're unhappy for any reason, Teachable's 30-day money back policy applies. Please note that this is policy does NOT apply to the optional add-on 30-minute Zoom sessions.

If there are updates to this course, do I have to pay extra?

Any updates added to the course AFTER you enroll will be included and available to you right away at no extra charge.
